Our Purpose

The Detroit Chapter
Queen for a Day (QFAD) and Heroes, under the umbrella foundation of "The For a Day Foundation", are national non-profit charities whose mission is to raise the self esteem and confidence of children 3-21.

Our events are held at local hospitals, homes and counseling centers where children diagnosed with illness are invited to participate in a day of fun. One day to not be sick and just be a kid. Our personal visits and group parties offer makeovers, crafts, manicures, games, temporary tattoos and entertainers. Girls receive boas and tiaras (some donated by beauty queens), boys receive fireman hats, and a badge.

Participating Michigan hospitals: William Beaumont-Royal Oak, St. John Hospital-Grosse Pointe, Children's Hospital of Michigan-Detroit, Mott Children's Hospital-Ann Arbor, Sparrow Hospital-Lansing and Hurley Hospital-Flint.

Visits with children also take place at Camp Quality-Fenton, Camp Quality-Petoskey, Gilda's Club-Royal Oak. FADF also does individual visits for children at home or in the hospital.

The National Organization
Founded as Queen for a Day, The For a Day Foundation, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, aims to provide memorable and emotionally therapeutic experiences for seriously ill children, ages 1 to 21 years, through positive attention, artistic expression, and self-confidence building activities. Founded in 2000, QFAD has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and in People Magazine.

The For a Day Foundation is committed to creating emotionally therapeutic experiences for seriously ill children—and providing them and their families with a joyful and much needed diversion from the strain of chronic treatment.

We use role models, make believe, and play therapy to give each child the opportunity to imagine and live out a fantasy while experiencing a moment of the childhood they all deserve.

We believe that by engaging and supporting these children with our programs, we not only offer them a brief respite from the realities of their illness and everyday hospital routine, but also a lasting and cherished memory to make any day a little brighter.
